Review of Trigger Point Therapy and Laser Acupuncture

In my previous blog, we discussed Trigger Points being the Hidden Cause of most pain and how to assess if you have symptoms of trigger point pain. Let’s be clear here. Unless you or someone you know has struggled with severe injury, chronic pain, or degenerative disease, it is very difficult to understand the impact it can have on life. But if you struggle with chronic pain, you know its debilitating effects. You’ve likely given up hobbies, family activities, and travel in your efforts to control pain and maintain functionality. Unfortunately, until now, the only treatment options for these types of conditions have mainly been surgery or addictive pain killers, which often have unwelcome side effects. However, the relief I have seen my patients experience with the treatment of Trigger Point and Laser Acupuncture, has garnered my interest further in pain management services and I would like to share the benefits of these treatments to help relieve more people living with pain related conditions.

Trigger Point Therapy, as a treatment for muscle pain involves identifying the muscle knots and injecting local anesthesia into the muscle involved. The metal needle releases the knot in the muscle that is highly electrically charged. Injecting a metal needle into the knot releases the spasm in the muscle and this may be the reason why this treatment is related to acupuncture. The local anaesthetic decreases the sympathetic drive in the local nerve and with subsequent treatment, the nerves become less and less sensitive. My recommendation is for patients to try 4 treatments and they should be 40% better in this time. And they should only continue therapy if they respond. Trigger Point Therapy is safe and covered by MSP. It provides quick and effect results. No referrals are required and all appointments can be easily booked over the phone at my office.

Laser Acupuncture is a painless treatment, wherein infrared light supplies energy to the body in the form of thermal photons of light, thereby increasing circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasm, stiffness and pain. This therapy is used either by itself or in combination with trigger point therapy for muscle and joint pain. Through my pain management services, I have been using both these therapies for the past 8 years and now I can confidently say that at least 70% of patients respond to these therapies. At Rejuv Medical Fitness, we use K-Laser, a state-of-the-art, Class IV laser therapy, which has been found to penetrate tissue and initiate healing on a cellular level, even allowing some patients to return to normal, everyday activities with little to no pain. K-Laser is an FDA cleared therapeutic treatment that manages pain and inflammation while accelerating tissue regeneration.

Some of the conditions that may typically be treated by high power laser therapy include:

  • Back and Neck Pain
  • Sciatic Pain
  • Arthritis pain, Degenerative Discs/Joints
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Knee Problems
  • Tendinitis
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Sprains and/or Strains
  • Athletic Injuries
  • Bruises, Contusions
  • Headaches, TMJ

I understand the frustrations of patients having to wait to access diagnosis, treatments and the pressure of everyday medication to deal with ongoing pain. So no more waiting to treat pain! Trigger Point Therapy and Laser Acupuncture offer great results!
